The LG Corporation started in 1947 by Koo In-Hwoi as the Lak-Hui Chemical Industrial Corporation (now LG Chemical); Lak-Hui is pronounced similar to the English work “lucky”.

In 1958 the company started Goldstar Company, Ltd., which has become LG Electronics Incorporated. This company created South Korea’s first radio and most electronics under the Goldstar name; some other products were produced under the Lak-Hui name.

Lak-Hui is more famous for it’s hygiene supplies over the electronics.”Lucky” made soaps, laundry detergents, and most notably, toothpaste.

At some point after the creation of Goldstar, Lak-Hui merged with and the two became the Lucky-Goldstar Corporation. With the technological increase in the 1990′s this merger renamed itself in 1995 as “LG“.

LG was late to get into the smartphone race, hanging on the the “feature phone” market. They now produce several Andriod devices for our love of all things Android.

It was later noticed by members of the Internet community that if the L in the logo were to be moved upwards to match the rest of the logo, then the logo turns into a Pacman shaped object. – Wikipedia.com
